  • CBI searches the house and office of liquor baron and former boss of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, Dr Vijay Mallya, in connection with a default of over Rs 900 Crore loan from IDBI
  • In an RTI inquiry by media, it has been found that Western UP has seen a surge in cow slaughter after the law prohibiting slaughter came into force. As many as 2118 cases have been registered by June 30 this year compared to a total of 2456 cases in 2011
  • 2 Muslims were arrested in UP for the clash regarding cow slaughter in Mainpuri area. They have been charged with inciting violence between the 2 communities of Hindus and Muslims in the area

  • In a crisis that is deepening day by day, two more authors returned their Sahitya Akademi Awards on Saturday. Hindi Author Krishna Sobti and Malayalam author Sara H Joseph returned their awards whereas K Satchidanandan resigned from all the posts in the Academy
  • Legendary Tamil Actress Manorama passed away at the age of 78 on Saturday night. She acted in over 1200 films with stars like Sivaji Ganesan, MGR etc
  • In a bid to modernize the toilets in the trains on the lines Clean India campaign by Narendra Modi, the railway Ministry has decided to modify the train toilets so that not a drop of discharge falls on the railway tracks. Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu has been chosen as the first “Discharge Free” railway station in the country
  • According to Archeological Survey of India Director-General Rakesh Tiwari, the organization is planning to request the government to declare a no-fly zone over Qutub Minar, the UNESCO Heritage site. This move is thought of because the vibrations caused due to flights damage the property
  • Novelist Shubhash Chandran has been chosen for the Vaylar Award 2015 for his novel Manushyanu Oru Aamukham, a novel spanning two generations. The award is presented by the Vaylar Ramvarna Memorial Trust, Kerala

  • Chinese Smartphone brand Gionee has decided to launch its first made in India smartphone on October 12 in the presence of AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu. In September, Xiaomi, the maker of the brand announced setting up of manufacturing facilities in India
